It was a process of transformation at Jean Paul Gaultier. However, it was not from an immature form but rather from one character to another. An appropriate symbol for the rebirth of a season full of transformation and the natural beauty surrounding spring. Jean Paul Gaulthier could not have chosen a better symbol: the butterfly.

But the show was not about celebrating just the transformation of the seasons, it was an hommage to the transformation of the ever so intriguing woman. Jean Paul’s cohesive collection set the tone to a beautiful and literal reinterpretation of the butterfly into his designs. It wasn’t just a fashion presentation, it was indeed a feel good show of transformation with a touch of burlesque and showstopping showgirls.

 In the words of one of the presse attachés: “she’s a butterfly in the day, and a showgirl at night.”

As opposed to the ‘all elements natural and spiritual’ show presented by Sarah Burton in the Spring Summer 2011Alexander McQueen collection with the monarch butterfly, Jean Paul Gaultier gave room to a plethora of butterflies, from the Red Lacewing to the Blue Morpho. Full dresses with full butterflies in analogous tones of blues, gowns in complimentary toned details of blue and orange against black and white, orange flared sheer skirts with butterfly embroidered motifs and matching gloves, all building up to Dita Von Teese closing the show in a burlesque interpretational Blue Morpho dress… It was all a celebration of the many transformative phases of a woman.
